There’s snow doubt about it....John Bray is the unluckiest Captain Royal Ascot Golf Club has ever had. So much so, his pals at the popular club have nicknamed him Captain Calamity. On Monday John (right in this picture), with club professional Robert Daw, turned up before it was light to organise a lockdown lifting competition only to see it being cancelled by an unexpected snow storm! He said “you couldn’t make it up. We had everything arranged. After months of misery we were going to enjoy the lifting of restrictions with a comp and a few pints on the terrace. Then the unexpected snow came. I just couldn’t believe it.” John’s reign has been hit by floods, a blistering heatwave, the virus and now arctic conditions. Club general manager, Alison Hall said “John hasn’t had much luck. Now we are fearing a plague of locusts”. But John was not totally downcast. He treated Robert to the first beer poured at the club in months!
