50 Years of Fun and Fellowship in Ascot |

Ascot Round Table, founded in 1967, held a very successful and enjoyable ‘boys night out’ to celebrate ‘50 years of Round Tabling in Ascot’ at the Berystede Hotel on Monday 27 March.

It held its second celebration at Mill Ride Golf Club on Saturday 8 July and this time all the ladies were invited too!

Over 90 guests attended this very successful event – mostly present and past members of the club with wives and partners- on a sunny July afternoon. Everyone enjoyed a wonderful lunch followed by a good old cockney sing song to celebrate the success of the club which, over the years, has raised over £1 million for local, national and international charities, organisations and individuals. Members of the club have also given over 100,000 hours of their spare time over the last 50 years to help in the local community and to raise funds for those in need.

Dave explained his reasons for choosing the Prince’s Trust as his charity for the year and briefly outlined their work. Ascot 41 Club Chairman Richard Audsley, who acted as host and master of ceremonies for the event, presented Dave with a cheque from Ascot 41 Club to his chosen charity. The guest of honour at this prestigious event was Dave Campbell – the National President of 41 Club (the club that ex-Round Tablers join when they are considered ‘too old’ for Round Table) accompanied by his wife Pauline.

Towards the end of the lunch the guests enjoyed an ‘interruption ‘ by ten of the ladies who had quickly changed into Ascot Ladies Day costumes and hat who then gave a spirited rendition of the Ascot Gavotte with lyrics suitably customised for the audience on the day. Highly entertaining and occasionally in tune!

As all the past and present members of the club celebrating on 27 March will testify joining Ascot Round Table was one of the best decisions they ever made - helping the community and making lifelong friendships.
