Last year Thames Hospice was very fortunate to be able to work with world-renowned film company, Special Treats, who generously donated their time, free of charge, to create an inspiring short film about Thames Hospice. We hope this film will help promote the reality of hospice life to benefit the work of all hospices across the country.

The film is on the Thames Hospice  website:  www.thameshospice.org.uk/ashortfilmaboutus

This film features many local people who work for TH and whom they care for. Please take a moment to watch the film and share it on your social media channels and via your website if appropriate.

NEW FILM DEMYSTIFIES HOSPICE CARE

Thames Hospice is thrilled to announce the release of ’A Short Film About Us’, created by world-renowned Broadcasting and Media Production Company, Special Treats.

The team at Special Treats, who have worked on countless box office hits, including Bond and Star Wars, generously donated their time, free of charge, to create a truly inspiring short film capturing the essence of Thames Hospice and challenging the myths surrounding hospice care.

Debbie Raven, Chief Executive at Thames Hospice, said: “This is a really powerful film and there are so many people I would like to thank for helping explain what we do so creatively. I’m so grateful to Colin Burrows and his team at Special Treats, who dedicated an incredible amount of time filming and editing hours of footage to produce this wonderful piece.

“My heartfelt thanks go to the patients and families who allowed us to film them whilst being cared for by the Hospice. I hope this film helps to dispel some of the myths around hospice care; we aren’t just a place where people spend their final days. Our patients and their loved ones are referred to us when their condition becomes life-limiting, for pain and symptom control and respite care, as well as emotional support and complementary therapy.  Around half of our patients go home and continue receiving care from our Community Team, to enable them to maintain a good quality of life while managing their condition.

“I would also like to thank the many staff and volunteers who agreed to be filmed. It’s evident from the film how proud and passionate they are to work for our charity and make a difference to the lives of patients and their families every day. We hope the community will watch our film, share it, and help us spread the word about our services.”

Commenting on the project, Colin Burrows, Managing Director at Special Treats, said: “This has been one of the most rewarding and empowering projects to be part of and we’ve loved being able to support an excellent organisation in a small way. It was powerful to see, first-hand, how people benefit from the Hospice’s services and fascinating to see people do their job allied with compassion.

“Like many people, I thought hospices were only about end-of-life care, but working on this project has completely changed my perception. Serenity, living life, laughter and a real sense of purpose are very evident at the Hospice.”

Carol Ellis is a patient accessing day therapy services at Thames Hospice and features in the film. She said: “My first perception of hospice care was wrong. I am so amazed and impressed. The staff are brilliant – always smiling and happy. They are not just there for me, they are there for my family too. If I didn’t have the Hospice, I don’t think I would be in a good place.”

The film is now live on the Thames Hospice homepage at www.thameshospice.org.uk/ashortfilmaboutus

About Thames Hospice

Thames Hospice is the local charity providing expert care for people living with life-limiting illnesses in East Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire. A vital part of our work is also supporting their loved ones.

We care for the physical, social and psychological needs of our patients, not just the condition. Our highly skilled medical team works with the patient, their family and carers, to develop a complete programme of care tailored to their individual needs.

Our services include therapy, nursing and medical care, as well as practical and emotional support in our Hospice at Windsor and in patients' homes.

It costs more than £7million every year to keep our Hospice running. We rely on 80% of our income from charitable donations, which enables us to provide our services free of charge, 365 days a year, to the people who need us.
