The District round of the Rotary Young Musician of the Year  competition took place over the weekend of March 6th 2016, in Reading. The Ascot & Wokingham Rotary Districts sent four entries, resulting from the local round of the competition, which had been held at Charters School in February - see ASCOT MATTERS ARTICLE. The four comprised two vocalists - Charlotte Kilpatrick (St.Mary's) and Phoebe Parker (Heathfield School, Ascot)-  and two instrumentalists - Katherine Beine  (flute)and Rosanna Suvini (violin).

The standard set by all students taking part was extremely high, with a range of instruments being played within the instrumental section.  St. Mary's School, Ascot, Violinist, Rosanna Suvini (14),  won her section. Rosanna impressed the judges with her renditions of  Brahms' Scherzo from F.A.E. Sonata and Manuel de Falla's Danse Espagnole arr. by Kreisler.  In the District Round, she received her certificate from the District President, Rtn Fred King and will now goes forward to the next round -  the Regional competition (S.E.England) on Sunday March 20th in Guildford.

The two vocalists and the second instrumentalist unfortunately were not placed in the first two places although they all performed extremely well.
