St.Georges'Ascot :: Choir at St.Paul's 2015

St George’s School Choir performs at St Paul’s Cathedral

The Chapel Choir of St George’s School Ascot performed at the highest level this week at one of the country’s most prestigious venues.

The twenty-four strong choir travelled to London for Evensong at St Paul’s Cathedral on Monday 16 November.  This is an annual event for the school and gives the girls the chance to exhibit their best music.  The fully gowned Choir performed a range of pieces from Howard Goodall, Stephen Darlington, Francis Jackson and St Georges’ own Director of Music, Ian Hillier.

St George’s Chaplain, Rev Jennifer Sistig, also took part in readings at the service, and parents of the girls came to swell the already large congregation of worshippers.  In the wake of the terror attacks in Paris last weekend, Ian Hillier said that it was good to see so many people “gathered for prayer, peace and meditation, reflecting on the week’s dreadful events.

Sixth Form Choir-member Emma Cunliffe, described singing in the famous cathedral as “such a privilege and an amazing experience which will stay with me for life"

Ian Hillier said of the performance: “It is always an amazing experience, acoustics and architecture to match any music.”

The Choir were thrilled to be singing again in St Paul’s and look forward to returning next year.
