Christine Gadd :: Chairman's Retirement Christine Gadd :: Chairman's Retirement Christine Gadd formally stepped down as Sunningdale Parish Council Chairman, on May 12th. After 14 years dedicated service (Chairman 2007 - 2015), Christine handed over her chain of office to the newly elected Chairman - Anne-Catherine Buxton - saying that, only deciding to move to projects new, made her realise the weight of responsibility carried by Parish Chairman.
In an emotional farewell, she said that her Parish Council career began with a daffodil bulb and she was as proud of the early bulb planting with local children, as of many later projects. Among Christine's many notable achievements, are the granite Diamond Jubilee seat in Chobham Road, the wonderful Diamond Jubilee Concert, the annual Christmas Lights celebration, the telephone box Book Exchange in Chobham Road and huge improvements to the Broomhall Recreation Ground.
A short ceremony was held in Broomhall Park, by the children's playground, where a tree (an Alnus Incana Aurea ) has been planted in recognition of Christine's service. A presentation was also made to Nick Dawson, who retired from his role as Vice Chairman.
Former colleague on the Parish Council, Martin Porter, said: " No-one can doubt the enormous contribution she has made to the Parish and, in particular, to the environment in the broadest sense in which we live. I well recall from my years working with Christine on the Council, her boundless enthusiasm for plants in the summer and lights at Christmas and her year round encouragement to us all to enjoy the walks around our area. When not walking Christine is often to be seen cycling around the village taking every thing in and doing her bit, along with fuel efficiency in the Parish Offices, to make both the parish and the earth a better place to live.
