Ascot Organ and Keyboard Club PDF Print
ASCOT ORGAN and KEYBOARD CLUB is a friendly club that meets monthly. It holds a mixture of professional and amateur nights and the occasional charity evening. This not only raises money for good causes, but also promotes the club. The club tries to give younger artistes just starting on the circuit a chance as well as the old favourites. As you will see from our concert diary they have a good selection of top artistes covering many styles of music. Refreshments are included in the entrance fee so why not go along and hear some of the best professional organists play - or just listen to some of the local talent you didn't know existed!

Quite a few of our members have their own organs or keyboards. All try to help each other where possible, and encourage each other to play at our amateur evenings, when players can bring along their own instruments (organs by prior arrangement with the Chairman) or play the club organ, a Technics GA1. A light hearted competition is held annually and a cup presented to the most improved player. The club is always glad to welcome amateur players to show off their talents. Their family, friends and all those wishing to have an evening of live music in friendly surroundings are also welcome at all meetings. This includes members of other clubs who are visiting the area.

In July the club holds a summer social with a fish & chip supper and a very relaxed atmosphere. This gives members who have not played before the chance to "have-a-go" with less pressure.

The club is very well run by Chairman Tony Reed and a dedicated hard working committee. It has a reputation for being one of the friendliest and welcoming clubs in the country.

The club usually meets on the third Friday of the month at 8pm. Subscription: £10 (concession £9) Members admission: £4.00

Visitors admission: £5.00 Club nights are charged at £2.50 for members and £3.00 for guests.

Italian Classes - Group meets at St.Martins PDF Print

Group Italian lessons near ascot
Are you interested in expanding your knowledge of Italian? A small group meets in St Martin's Hall and would welcome new members. Lessons are once a week, each term consisting of 6 to 8 lessons and we are currently at 3rd/4th year level. Please phone Adrian on 883330 for details."

A little explanation - we have had a class running for a couple of terms for only a small number of students and this term most have decided not to continue. The cost depends on the numbers as it is privately run by an italian teacher. If there is sufficient interest we could think of starting a new term about the end of September.

National Women'sRegister - Ascot PDF Print

National Womens Register, North Ascot,

If you wanted to find out more about tips on how to cope during the recession, whether your birth order might have affected your life or maybe learn about the Citizens’ Advice Bureau you could consult your computer or a therapist, or maybe look into your next-door neighbour’s front room if you live in north Ascot and your neighbour is a member of the local branch of the National Women’s Register.  However, members don’t have to come only from North Ascot and there are currently members from South Ascot, Sunninghill, Bracknell, Winkfield and one recent new member comes from Windlesham.

The Register was set up 50 years ago to meet the needs of lively-minded women who wished to get together, but not to discuss domestic or work topics.  The North Ascot branch of this national organisation has been going since 1977 and has provided members with the opportunity to undertake research into the programme topics with lively discussion as a result.  It has also created many long-lasting friendships among the members, many of whom did not originate from the area, who come from all walks of life and hold, or did hold, a wide range of occupations between them.
Meetings are held in the evening once a fortnight in members’ homes, which makes for a more relaxed atmosphere than a public hall.  Not all meetings are of the discussion type:  ad hoc coffee mornings are held which provide a relaxed way for new members to find out more, outside visits are undertaken from time to time as well as walks guided by one of the members.

To find out more about the North Ascot group please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and more about the national organisation can be found at www.nwr.org.uk.

Public Speaking Club PDF Print

Windsor SpeakersEveryone is a bit afraid of speaking in groups or in public, some just hide it better than others! Do you think it would be a good thing if you were able to speak more confidently or improve your skills?
There’s a safe place you can achieve this and learn to become a better speaker, expressing yourself more freely and feeling in control rather than the other way round.

Windsor Speakers is a ‘non-profit’ club that meets two evenings a month where members get to practice and improve their public speaking in an organised, safe and supportive environment. It’s part of the Toastmasters International organisation that has over one million members worldwide.

We have all walks of life from housewives to business people to tradesmen to students. Ranging from accomplished speakers to absolute beginners.

We meet on the 1st and 3rd Monday every month at Gardeners Hall, 213 St Leonards Road, Windsor SL4 3DR. If this is something you might be interested in then pop along one evening to take a look and see what it’s all about. You’d be welcomed.

Sunningdale Savoy Chorus' Next Production PDF Print

Sunningdale Savoy Chorus

Sunningdale Savoy Chorus welcomes new members. The group meets at Cheapside Village Hall.

For information about the Sunningdale Savoy Chorus visit  www.sunningdalesavoy.com

The Sunningdale Savoy Chorus has announced its next production and is planning a Gala year, to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

The Sunningdale Savoy Chorus are pleased to announce that its next show will be "Salad Days" by Julian Slade and Dorothy Reynolds. This delightful coming of age musical was once the longest running show in the West End until "Oliver" came along. It tells the story of Jane and Timothy and their search for something to do after leaving University. All ends happily of course but not until they have had a series of adventures involving a tramp, a magic piano, a spooky uncle and a flying saucer. Its songs include "I Sit in the Sun", "Oh Look At Me", "We're Looking For A Piano", "The Time Of My Life" "The Saucer Song" and many more. The society will perform Salad Days during w/c 13 July in 2010.

A Gala Year

In 2011 the Sunningdale Savoy Chorus will have existed for 20 years and its Committee are already planning a gala year that really celebrates the Savoy in the Society's name. To kick this off to a fantastic start  they have commissioned a reworking of Gilbert and Sullivans neglected opera "Princess Ida". This delightful work contains some of Sullivan's best music, unfortunately, not heard as much as it should be probably because Gilbert wrote the spoken words of the piece in blank verse. The plot involving wayward Princes, very independently minded young women, men in women's clothes, warring heads of State and a "will they won't they" love story is, therefore, ripe for an update. Peter Harris, who took a satirical swipe at UK national politics recently in the G&S inspired Demokracy, premiered by the Society in 2007, will write the words to a new book by John Woodward-Roberts.

Please watch this space for further announcements about the Society's Gala Year.

For membership information call the Secretary Valerie Ryalls on 01344 291243.
