THAMES HOSPICE ANNOUNCES CRITICAL CHANGES TO ITS SERVICES IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19 | Thames Hospice cares for and supports local families facing terminal illness and it’s important that, during these unprecedented times, we take all reasonable steps to continue to protect the well-being and safety of those using our services, as well as colleagues working and volunteering at the Hospice.

Following the UK Government’s guidance on COVID-19, our services are operating as follows to ensure we continue to support local people and NHS Trusts:

Inpatient Unit

The Inpatient Unit remains open, continuing to care for patients with end-of-life needs and will also support those who have or are suspected of having COVID-19. The Inpatient Unit will be divided into two clinical areas (with separate entrances) to support and protect patients, visitors and staff as follows:

  • All patients who do not have COVID-19 will be nursed in the shared wards
  • Patients with COVID-19 will be cared for in the single rooms

The Sanctuary on the Inpatient Unit will only be available to relatives of COVID-19 patients where they will be able to access support from our Pastoral Care Team.

Complementary Therapy treatments will only be offered to patients on the Inpatient Unit (non-COVID-19 patients only) until further notice.

Day Therapy Unit

In the interest of reducing risk and keeping staff, volunteers and visitors safe, our Day Therapy Unit is closed until the foreseeable future. We remain in regular contact with our Day Therapy patients to check on their health and well-being. Our Advice Line is also available to patients and their carers
24-hours a day. Call 01753 848925.

Community services

Community services will continue to care for those with palliative needs at home. The Community Team can be contacted on 01753 848925.

About Thames Hospice

Thames Hospice is the local charity for people living in East Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire.  We provide expert care to adults who have a life-limiting illness - and their families and carers.

We care for the physical, social and psychological needs of our patients, not just the condition.  Our highly skilled medical team work with the patient and their families to develop a complete programme of care tailored to their individual needs.

Our services include nursing and medical care in our Hospice at Windsor, Community Therapy Unit in Ascot and in patients' homes, as well as practical and emotional support.

It costs more than £7million every year to keep our Hospice running.  We rely on 80% of our income from charitable donations, which enables us to provide our services free of charge, 365 days a year, to the people who need us.
