************

The Rotary Club of Ascot principally provides support to well-known local community activities and raises money for local and international causes. With a motto 'Service Above Self'', its main objective is service - in the community, in the workplace and around the world. There are 1.2 million Rotarians worldwide in 34,000 Rotary Clubs in nearly every country. It is not affiliated with any political or religious organisations.

Locally, it is particularly well-known for organising the hugely popular New Year's Day Sunninghill Wheelbarrow Race, which raises thousands of pounds annually for the Ascot District Day Centre and other charities. (The Club has also contributed to the purchasing of two new mini buses, used for transport to the Day Centre).  See PHOTOS OF WHEELBARROW RACE winners 2020.

Local Competitions

The Club promotes local heats of Rotary GB 'Youth Speaks', 'Young Chef', 'Young Musician', 'Young Photographer' , 'Young Writer' competitions, as well as a 'Schools Music Concert' for local school children. Awards are also made to selected pupils who have given 'Service Above Self'

Social Opportunities

The Club holds numerous social events that combine fundraising and fun for Rotarians, families and friends. In recent years, these have included Garden Parties, Quiz Nights, Jazz and other Band Concerts, A Race Night and a Summer Barbecue.  There are close links with three European Clubs (St.Nazaire in France, Ingleheim in Germany, Gulpen Vaals in Holland), with regular reciprocal visits.

The fellowship that is generated is quite exceptional and members often become close friends. There is also a very active Inner Wheel Club with which some joint events are held. The IW is for the partners of Rotarians and meets twice monthly . New members welcome!

Charities Supported

Examples of charities supported include Rotary Foundation for International Projects, Polio Elimination, Shelter Box, Water Schemes, Eye Clinics, Thames Hospice, Ascot District day Centre, Thames Valley Air Ambulance, Rotary Youth competitions, Age Concern Bracknell Forest, Children With Special Needs, Christopher's Smile.

This enables a senior member of an organisation (all sizes of business) and up to three designees, to become Members - who can attend as many meetings, social functions and fundraisers, as practical. The Scheme has been launched in response to a clear wish - on the part of local business leaders - to associate themselves with the Club's ethos of commitment and responsibility within the local community.

Sponsorship

There are several opportunities for local businesses to sponsor Rotary Club of Ascot events, throughout the Ascot calendar. Such events include the Golf Day, the New Year Sunninghill Whellbarrow Race, which attract wide media interest.
