Celebration of Life event raises £9,000 for Paul Strickland Scanner Centre |  Sunningdale resident Giovanna Thomas and her sister Rosalva Fernandez raised £9,000 in aid of the Paul Strickland Scanner Centre, at a charity dinner dance held to honour their mother Giuseppina on 2 May 2015.

Two hundred guests attended the ‘Celebration of Life’ event at the Berystede Hotel, Ascot, to mark 20 years since Giuseppina passed away at the age of 45 on 8th May 1995.

Giovanna Thomas said: “My sister and I were delighted to host this special event in honour of our wonderful mum. After the meal, we both made a short speech and showed a short film of photos of the guests’ lost loved ones, including a short clip of our mum, accompanied by some music – this was quite poignant and a reminder of the lives we were celebrating.

“We were both so overwhelmed by the support by the local businesses for the excellent raffle and auction prizes.  The event was a huge success and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Mum went for all of her scans at the Paul Strickland Scanner Centre, so it was important to us to donate the proceeds of the event to the Centre to ensure other people can benefit from the excellent care our mum received.”

The funds raised at the event will go towards the 30th Anniversary CT Scanner Appeal at Paul Strickland Scanner Centre to help with early diagnosis of cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
