The Spotlights (SSC)Spotlights Musical Theatre Group (originally named The Sunningdale Savoy Chorus) is THE local group for those wishing to take part in amateur musical theatre.

Founded in 1991, originally to perform the works of Gilbert and Sullivan but now, every July, we perform shows that span the whole range. Our recent productions include Kiss Me Kate, Orpheus in the Underworld, Annie Get Your Gun and Pajama Game. We top and tail our main show with an autumn concert in October and a Christmas concert in December. The Rose Theatre at St Mary’s School Ascot is the normal venue for our annual big production.

We rehearse on Monday evenings at Cheapside Village Hall at 8pm and we’re always on the lookout for new onstage and backstage members. You’ll find us a friendly and welcoming bunch of about 40 who, as well as performing together, enjoy an annual BBQ and a Christmas meal as part of our social calendar. Plus, of course, essential visits to a local hostelry post rehearsal!

Due to the small, friendly atmosphere members are actively encouraged to take roles in our productions - we like to keep it in house as much as possible. We also manage the whole production ourselves - nobody is left out - and if wives, friends or partners are left at home they are soon encouraged to volunteer into one of the many important backstage or front of house roles.

So if you are looking to extend your social life somewhat and can hold a tune (we take both budding Pavarotti’s and bathroom mirror entertainers), act or want to help in any way please contact our Secretary, Sheila Knight on sheila@tonysheila.plus.com

Or why don’t you just turn up to a rehearsal on a Monday night.

You will be made most welcome! See you soon.

The Spotlights Musical Theatre Group (SMTG) are changing their performance venue this year after many years at the Rose Theatre, part of St.Marys School in Ascot. "We first performed a summer show at the Rose in 2010", says John Woodward-Roberts, the groups Chairman. "It was Salad Days and we followed this up with HMS Pinafore (2011), Annie Get Your Gun (2012), Orpheus in the Underworld (2013), Kiss Me Kate (2014) and Pajama Game in 2015". "Our last show at The Rose in 2016 was Pirates of Penzance, a fitting production to complete our tenancy with" says John.

Homeless for a few months, but full of optimism that something would turn up, the SMTG were delighted when it was agreed that they could perform their 2017 summer show, My Fair Lady, at Papplewick School, the independent boys school on Windsor Road in Ascot. "The agreement was brokered by Chris Goodwin, the SMTGs ex Music Director and Chapel Organist at Papplewick" says John, "and, although we miss The Rose and its people very much,  we are delighted to be performing there".

The SMTG are particularly excited that one of the big chorus songs in My Fair Lady, The Ascot Gavotte, is actually set in the Royal Enclosure at Ascot racecourse. "The school is adjacent to the racecourse so you couldn't hope for a more fitting location"

The group will be fundraising for the charity "Youth Music" during show week.

My Fair Lady will be performed at Papplewick School from Thursday July 13 to Saturday July 15. Performances will be at 730pm and there will also be a matinee at 230pm on the Saturday. Tickets cost £16 for adults and £11 for children under 16 and can be bought on line at www.ticketsource.co.uk/spotlightsmusicaltheatregroup  They can also be bought from any SMTG member or from the group's box office on 0333 666 3366.  A transaction charge of £1.50 will be made for all telephone box office bookings.

Spotlights Musical Theatre Group's (SMTG) will perform  Spotlight on the West End at the Carnation Hall, on Friday May 10th and Saturday May 11th (matinee and evening) 2019

After the huge successes of the Choral numbers performed by the group in the Autumn and Christmas productions, we are building on this with a powerful mix of songs from West End productions.

Spotlights are delighted to welcome back Ms Serena Kay as Music Director of the little merry band of singers.

This concert will be at Carnation Hall this year which boasts an amazing accoustic and is one of our favourite venues to perform.
