Papplewick old boy James Haskell, ex England rugby union player and fitness guru, returned again to his old school on Tuesday 10th September.  James who is embarking on a new career in the heavyweight division of Mixed Martial Arts enjoyed a game of handball with the boys at breaktime and quickly came to the conclusion that becoming a World MMA champion was more likely that becoming a Papplewick Handball Champion!  After picking up some top tips from the U9s he then visited the famous herpetology club in the science lab and did some 'overcoming of fears' training making friends with a python and a tarantula!

Headmaster Tom Bunbury said " James was on top form as always, and many thanks to him for being such a good sport - it's always a pleasure to welcome him back."

On Wednesday 17th July, Charters School in Sunningdale held the annual Celebration of Achievement Evening, which this year was sponsored by a number of local businesses.  The event celebrates the progress and achievements of students not sitting public exams during the current academic year and Ascot Grange, Dormy House Care Home, Ascot Racecourse, Londis of Sunninghill and Coworth Park each sponsored a year group’s prizes.  Certificates, cups and special awards for both academic achievement and effort were awarded by Ms Ellie Wallace, Chair of Trustees.

The event, which is always exceptionally well supported by parents and staff, is one of the school’s most prestigious events and is a wonderful opportunity for all those connected with Charters School to recognise the hard work and dedication of the students. The addition of the sponsors really added an extra dimension to the proceedings as each company delivered a short speech before their year group received their awards, allowing the audience to hear how well regarded the school is viewed throughout the local community.

Students were also selected for awards for their contribution to school life. The school recognises that students make progress all the way through their school career and develop skills in many areas; this is reflected in the number of the awards presented to students for their contribution to school life.

Year 3 Papplewick boys enjoyed a Geography workshop called 'Around the World' at Legoland on Tuesday 17th September.

This enabled them to explore, locate and identify the earth's continents and oceans through LEGO.  They used both teamwork and building skills to create natural landmarks, animals and buildings out of LEGO.  They then went on to view the continents and countries in Mini Land, and followed this by a ride in a submarine.

Tom Bunbury, Headmaster said " We are fortunate to have Legoland on our doorstep and the boys were lucky enough to experience a fun, hands-on session to enhance their Geography lessons."
