Papplewick boys in Treasure Island anticsPapplewickboys from Years 7 and 8 put their all into an enthusiastic version of ‘Treasure Island’ last week (Thursday 29 November to Saturday 1 December).  In a musical interpretation by Stephen Kingsbury of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale, the cast of forty boys included rum swilling patrons, a bevy of island beauties,  a troupe of skeletal phantoms and mutinous pirates.

The musical charts the treasure-seeking antics of the irascible Long John Silver, (Max Michael, year 8); Jim Hawkins, (Sean Douglas, year 7); Squire Trelawney (Louis Triggs, year 8); Doctor Livesey, (Sam Mason, year 8); Billy Bones (William Woodward, year 7); Black Dog (Victor Lovato, year 8); Big Jesse (Jason Zhou, year 8) and Blind Pew (James Brydon, year 7) - not to forget Polly, Silver’s prattling pet parrot played by Jasper Bambury, year 8.   The marooned Ben Gunn was interpreted as a Noel Coward/Hugh Hefner character by William Shawe-Taylor, year 8.

“The play packed a bawdy, heady punch!” said headmaster Tom Bunbury, “and both audience and boys enjoyed the production enormously – it’s a great way to end the term.”
