Royal Borough residents have been invited to vote for their favourite new local building – from a shortlist of four – in a newly introduced category in the borough’s Design Awards.
The building receiving the most votes will win the People’s Choice Award. All voters will be entered into a draw to win tickets to the awards ceremony in January and those who vote for the winning scheme will also be included in a draw to win a year’s family membership of the National Trust.
The four properties are:
Ascot Business Park – Has been developed and transformed the area to the south of Ascot Railway Station
44 Old Ferry Drive, Wraysbury – Modern replacement dwelling in a residential area and on the floodplain
Little Upton, Upton House School, Windsor – New purpose-designed nursery school building within the grounds of main school replacing temporary classrooms. The site is within a conservation area
The Odney Club, Cookham – Redevelopment of former training centre within grounds of Grade ll listed building to provide a new conference centre, linked to converted outbuildings. The site is within a conservation area.
Residents can vote online at www.rbwm.gov.uk/web/pp_peoples_choice.htm , at council offices or by sending their vote to Planning Policy, Town Hall, St Ives Road, Maidenhead SL6 1RF. Voting is open until Friday 24 December.
A total of 28 properties were nominated by the public, local societies, councillors and architects for this year’s Design Awards and a judging panel has made its decision on various categories with the results to be announced at the awards ceremony.
The new People’s Choice category means residents can also have their say by casting their vote on the four properties shortlisted in the new build category.
Cllr Alison Knight, lead member for planning and development, said: “New builds, extensions and renovations have the potential to enhance or alter the character of their area, which is why high quality design, appropriate for its location, is so vital.
“Residents are the ones who live every day with the results of planning decisions so it was great to see so many submitting entries in a variety of categories.
“The People’s Choice Award provides another opportunity for residents to have their say on new builds. It will be interesting to compare the results with the judges’ decision!”
