Concerts for Charity - Sunningdale
Holy Trinity Church in Sunningdale is very lucky to have a wealth of musical talent among its congregation, not least in its Clergy. Vicar David Uffindell, a talented Pianist and Tenor, has just completed a sabbatical examining the relationship between worship and musical theatre and Curate Stephen Johnson, an ex-professional singer combines his parish duties with a musical ministry, using music to bring people closer to God.
Together with his wife Rachael, and organist Paul Jackson they organise the Holy Trinity Charity Concert series which takes place on Sunday evenings (usually the second Sunday of each month) from September to July.
The concert series provides an enjoyable way to raise money for charity (currently this season’s total is over £2000) and combines accomplished performances from local musicians with recitals from professional musicians. Concerts start at 6.30 and last for approximately an hour, giving ample opportunity to enjoy dinner afterwards or simply an early night! Highlights of the season so far have included Bach’s Magnificat, performed by Oxford Spezatti Soloists and Orchestra; a recital from students of Royal Holloway University and an evening of Jazz hosted in the CMI building.
We are delighted to welcome international pianist Tom Poster for our next concert, which takes place on Sunday 10th May at 6.30. Adults £5, under 16s go free. Find out more about Tom at www.tomposter.co.uk or catch him at Holy Trinity before he plays at the BBC Proms later this Summer.
Within the concert series, there are performances that are dedicated to reflect on aspects of the Christian faith not only with music, but also with drama, readings and media. Previously we have experienced the very successful ‘Christmas Unwrapped’ and ‘Easter explored’ and on Sunday June 14th there will be a performance of ‘A life less ordinary’, exploring the life of Jesus.
