Cranbourne Primary School Tercentenary Bell Appeal

Help us ring in our three hundredth year! Cranbourne Primary School is appealing to its former staff and pupils, as well as local residents, to help it mark its 300th anniversary by restoring the school bell to its former glory.
The bell was originally cast by J. Warner and sons in 1879 and acted as the central focus for school life for many years. Its sound is fondly remembered by many long term residents in the village whilst its tower is also the key architectural feature of the Grade II listed building.  In recent years, however, this historic bell has remained silent due to decay and disrepair.
Headteacher Colin Sambrook said: “Even now local residents speak of the importance and honour of being bell monitor. It is a tradition that we would like to revive for children growing up today.  Hearing a school bell is a rare and nostalgic pleasure that many would appreciate experiencing again in this modern era.”
The school needs £3000 to enable specialists to carry out this refurbishment during its tercentenary year. Given the local and historic importance of the bell it is hoping to raise these funds through the local community and with people who have a long standing association with the school.  By doing this it will allow an important piece of Cranbourne’s history to live for many decades to come.
