A house in Sutherland Chase, Blythewood, Ascot (fronting onto the Green, opposite the north end of Vernon Drive) exploded at about 12.20 pm on Wednesday November 23rd.  Residents all around reported a terrific 'boom' and their houses shaking. Roofers working close by felt the scaffolding rocked by the explosion. C & M window cleaners, working in Vernon Drive, were similarly shocked.

A fire engine, ambulance,  police and two air ambulances were on the scene very quickly to take the two injured occupants to hospital.  Onlookers were amazed at the skill of the helicopter pilots, who landed amongst the trees on Blythewood Green and the Vernon Drive lampposts. Workers quickly arrived and turned off the gas supply.  Sutherland Chase and Vernon Drive were sealed off while investigations and clearing up were done but the roads were re-open by 7pm.
