ascot rotary :: recruitment drive

Eight local Rotary Clubs , including Ascot, are taking part in a major recruitment drive to increase awareness and seek out new potential members for one of the world’s largest humanitarian movements, founded over 100 years ago. This is part of a far-reaching campaign believed to be the first of its kind in Great Britain, involving some 60 Clubs stretching along the M40 and M4 corridors and the Thames Valley. Posters will be appearing in the region carrying the slogan “Don’t wait to be invited”.
Rotary’s membership is a unique group of dedicated people who give their time and experience in organizing and running a very wide range of events and community service projects to raise money for or provide practical support to local, national and international charities. In 1985 Rotary made a commitment to immunize the world’s children against polio, and became a spearheading partner in the Global Polio Eradication, contributing almost $700 million to date, with the result that polio has now been eliminated in all but 4 countries. At a local level, the charities supported in this area include the Air Ambulance at White Waltham, and Thames Hospicecare, and many other ventures which rely entirely on non-government support.
Whilst doing so, Rotary Clubs meet weekly, and Rotarians enjoy much fun, fellowship, entertainment and comradeship. The Rotary motto is ‘Service above Self’, and Rotarians work hard to put something back, amongst friends and in a cost-effective manner.
The recruitment programme is designed to encourage enquiries from the public who live or work in the area, and to help overcome the perception that people have to wait to be tapped on the shoulder if they want to join Rotary. It is not a secret society, and is open to all, young and old, ladies and gentlemen. For further information, including details of meetings, and introduction to the Clubs in this area, contact the following, or visit the District Web Site on
