30 Years at Chapmans of Sunninghill

chapmans ironmongers sunninghillRobert Ellison is celebrating 30 years at Chapman’s the Ironmongers in Sunninghill High Street. Trading began in 1895 as an ironmongers by the Chapman family and was held in their hands for three generations. In 1980 it was bought by the family of Robert Ellison who has run the business ever since.  It is now a landmark in the area.

Robert has shaped and developed the business as it stands today. It offers a traditional type of service retaining many of the original Victorian features. However the shop has kept up to date with the requirements of the 21st century customer. They now stock a wide range of cookware, electrical appliances as well as the core products you would associate with an ironmongers. He is helped in the shop by members of his family as well as an efficient, friendly band of staff. Seven years ago he developed the building to add a much larger retail area to the rear which enabled him to turn the shop into a much brighter more customer friendly environment. The business has been a great success and is held in high affection by local residents. The shop is situated on the High Street in Sunninghill which incorporates Chapman’s Courtyard. This now houses other businesses such as The Stock Exchange, Hansen’s Deli, Artis Studios, Saracen Windows and Inspirations Gift shop.
