Royal Borough Mayor Attends CMI Celebration

Mayor,Cllr Mrs Bursnall & Rev David uffindellThe Worshipful the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, Councillor Mrs Catherine Bursnall (pictured left), was the guest of honour at Sunningdale's Rendezvous @ CMI – 5 Star Party on Monday 12th July.
David Uffindell, Vicar of Holy Trinity Church Sunningdale, welcomed the 60 guests (pictured left), saying this was a celebration of Rendezvous’ incredible 5 star award from the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, as part of their Scores On the Doors accreditation.
Scores on the Doors allows customers in the Borough to find out how well a food business complies with food safety laws by publishing this information on their website and displaying a window sticker of their star rating.

All food businesses are inspected by the environmental health service by whom they are scored on a range of factors:
•    standards of food hygiene and practices including temperature control, avoidance of cross-contamination, stock management and rotation
•    structural standards including cleanliness of the building, fixtures and fittings and
•    the degree of confidence in the management – implementation of health and safety training, documentation of food safety and cleaning procedures etc.
Five is the highest number of stars an establishment can be awarded and reflects excellence in all these areas.
Volunteers, staff, and all those who have been supportive of the work that goes on in both the CMI and Rendezvous , were invited to the celebration, as a thank you to them for helping achieve this recognition.
When Holy Trinity Church took on the lease for the CMI over 5 years ago the vision was to provide a venue for all sectors and all ages within the local community to meet and take part in a wide range of social, educational and leisure activities. And also for this building to be a home for Rendezvous, a community meeting place which provides catering in the form of a wide range of hot and cold drinks, cakes and light lunches. This has become an increasingly popular venue for people to meet in the community.
An estimated 1,500 people, across all age groups and this local area use the building on a regular basis. Some 80+ people help us on a voluntary basis in and around Rendezvous, running clubs, decorating, cleaning, maintaining the garden and upgrading the fabric of the building etc. We could not operate without the support of this extensive group of volunteers. A number of our volunteers are people who are unable to work either through ill health or disability. Additionally we provide work experience opportunities and have a number of Duke of Edinburgh Award students helping us by providing community work.
The long term vision for Rendezvous is to increase  opening hours and availability to the community – in the last 5 years we have only been open during term time, but we aim to meet the demand from customers and ultimately open for 50 weeks in the year. Building on the positive feedback from our customers , received last year when there was an outpost at the Recreation Ground,  Rev Uffindell was delighted  to announce that Rendezvous  will open throughout the school summer holidays from 10 am to 3 pm. The commitment from staff and volunteers to develop and expand the work they do here and to see it grow, and their passion to serving the community through this building has made this possible. Watch out for future developments encompassing half term holidays and Saturdays!
Alongside the work at the CMI, the Village Venues team have taken on the day to day operation of Sunningdale Village Hall at the other end of Church Road, streamlining hiring and booking procedures and promoting and encouraging participation in the activities taking place in both of these community venues via regular newsletters and the website (www.sunningdalevillagevenues.co.uk).
This year for the first time there will be an exciting array of children’s holiday activities and you can read more about these in the Village Venues yellow leaflet. They include drama, singing and dance holiday clubs, jewellery and cookery workshops, music for the under 5s and the Church’s own holiday club Salt Shakers. Do take a look at what’s on offer.
