Boys Show off Their Talents at Papplewick’s Got Talent 2010
Papplewick boys took to the stage again last Friday (27 May) in a ‘Papplewick’s Got Talent’ competition – with teachers Nigel Ramage (Simon Cowell), Michelle Doling, (Amanda Holden) Erin Harman (Danni Minogue), and Mark Burley (Piers Morgan) as the judges.
With a variety of performances from different age groups, it was a tough call for the judging panel. However Year 8 pupils Emil Calder (last year’s winner) was singing again with Alex Spiteri playing the guitar, and their rendition of ‘Chasing Cars’ by Snow Patrol won the judges hearts. ‘Amanda’ even had to reach for the tissues! Both are local boys from Sunningdale.
There were ten acts altogether:
Esongkuo Elombi – performing ‘Man in the Mirror’ by Michael Jackson
‘Greek Jedis’ – Alex Howard-Vyse, Laith Belkacem and James Hill – speaking Greek and playing the clarinet
James Paul – solo singing ‘Not Moving’
‘The Hive’ – a rap performance of a beehive - performed by Will Andrew, Ivo Delingpole, Dan Fraser, Freddie Long, Tom Prentis and Henry Parkin.
Emil Calder and Alex Spiteri – singing ‘Chasing Cars’.
Kevin Kim and Kaif-Ali Perwaz – singing and performing Michael Jackson’s moonwalk
‘Too Cool for names’ – boys in the lower school doing a dance routine and piano played by Dan Phillips
Lucas Marsden-Smedley singing ‘Buttercup’
Rakan Alireza, Ibrahim Alireza, James Winter and Henry Rice – dancing to a track called ‘The Single Ladies’
‘Notorious Bob’ – dance routine performed by Kevbe Otobo, Jacob Holder, Munya Wasterfall and Harris Nimba.
The whole event was expertly organised by Victoria Bownes, a year 3 class teacher.
Tom Bunbury, headmaster at Papplewick, said: “The aim is to instil confidence in the boys, and the emphasis is on entertainment and fun. This year’s event was even more spectacular than usual, and we all enjoyed ourselves hugely.”
