BBC Radio Berkshire's Maggie Philbin launches The 2010 Sunrise Walk
THc Sunrise Walk is back with a new date, venue and route for 2010!
BBC Radio Berkshire's Breakfast reporter Maggie Philbin has helped Thames Hospicecare get its 2010 Sunrise Walk off to a bright and early start.
Maggie was joined by local mums, grandmothers, daughters and friends at Thames Valley Athletics Ground on Friday, April 30, to launch the 2010 THc Sunrise Walk - which this year has a new start in Eton, and a brand new route and distance.
"I think it's fabulous that you have an event that is non-competitive but sufficiently challenging to make it attractive to women of all ages. I am delighted to be giving my support to the Sunrise Walk which sees so many women unite for such a fantastic cause.
I hope so many more women this year will want to take on this personal challenge, and at the same time, raise funds that the Hospice so desperately needs," said Maggie.
The women-only THc Sunrise Walk takes place on Sunday 5th September at 5:30am, and for the first time, has just the one 10 mile distance starting at Thames Valley Athletics Centre in Eton, and going through Windsor town centre and out into Windsor Great Park. Walkers will have the pleasure of experiencing the wonderful late summer sun rising over the park as they reach their half way mark.
Joining Maggie for the launch was Dawn Palmer from Windsor (pictured 1st left, back row), whose friend Louise was cared for at the Hospice:
"The staff at the Hospice do such a wonderful job.
I know that my friend and her family would have found it so much harder to get through the last few weeks without the fantastic care, support, expertise and friendship that they were all offered. Hospices play such an important role in so many people's lives. They provide people with a comfortable, calming and loving environment during such emotional and difficult times.
I can't praise hospices enough. It is so important to help them in raising the funds needed in order for them to continue to provide this important and valuable support, and that is why I will be taking part in the Sunrise Walk again this year. The walk is an ideal time and place to reflect, and contemplate the important things in life. This year I won't be doing the walk with my friend Louise, but in memory of her," said Dawn.
Registering for the THc Sunrise Walk 2010 is very easy:
