Novelists Visit Papplewick
‘The most unlikely pairing in publishing history’ visit Papplewick School!Last Friday, 23 April, children’s authors Steve Cole and Chris Hunter, whose first novel together, Tripwire, has recently been published, visited Papplewick School and talked to the boys about their latest venture.Steve opened the proceedings describing how the two of them got together to write the fictional story of Felix, the hero of Tripwire. Chris is a retired bomb disposal expert and spent some time describing his work and career in the army. He chose a boy to disarm a hostage bomb pack which, by popular request, had been fixed to a teacher. Chris talked the pupil through the procedure in a mock up of what would actually happen in a real situation.
Chris also enthralled the boys when, using Steve as the "bad man", he demonstrated how to disarm someone with a gun. A number of lively questions followed and many books were signed by Steve and Chris for the boys.
“I have spoken with some of the boys, who are always the best critics, and have been delighted to hear from them that the event was exciting. They were particularly pleased that it was very interactive,” said Tom Bunbury, headmaster. “One pupil is sure that the book will become a best seller!”
