BBC Recording at Jagz Club

bbc at jagz in ascotThe BBC’s latest Outside Broadcast Unit is a  hi–tech mobile recording studio and one of four recently commissioned by the corporation.  This unit  was visiting Jagz in Ascot on Sunday 11th April, to record The New Jazz Couriers at the club’s popular Sunday lunchtime  Jazz session’s.  The performance will be broadcast by BBC Radio 3 later this month and featured   Mornington Lockett (saxophone), Jim Hart (Vibes), Robin Aspland (Piano), Paul Morgan (Bass) and Martin Drew (Drums). Martin, the leader of The Couriers, said “We always love performing at Jagz. It has a great sound, lovely atmosphere and appreciative audience”.

The packed club was treated to some great music whilst the listeners enjoyed their Sunday lunch.  Local resident and Jagz regular Barry Utting said “ Listening to some great music at Jagz on a Sunday is one of the highlights of my life”.
This was the first outing that for this state of the art recording studio on an outside broadcast.  The BBC producer, Keith Loxham, said that everything  had gone perfectly and Jagz provided a great facility,  ‘we will be back for some more’.
Owner of Jagz John Gripton was delighted with the large turnout and great music and said ”It’s fifteen years since the BBC has recorded hear, we hope they come back sooner next time.  Jazz needs all the promotion it can get to reach a wider audience”.
