Scores on the Doors- Eatery Hygiene Website

Diners can see the hygiene ratings of eateries in the Royal Borough – from fine dining restaurants to kebab vans to school canteens – when a new scheme called Scores on the Doors is launched on Wednesday 14 April.

Establishments that prepare and serve food can be awarded from zero to five stars for their hygiene and food safety management standards. Zero stars indicate that major improvements are required and five stars that standards are excellent.

The live switch-on of the website takes place at the launch in the Town Hall in Maidenhead. In celebration of their achievements the Mayor, Cllr Jesse Grey, will present certificates to invited five-star businesses.

With more than three quarters of the borough’s food businesses already having been rated, residents can check ratings online, by text or by looking for the purple stickers in eatery windows.

In other parts of the country where Scores on the Doors has been introduced it has been shown to raise hygiene standards – good news for the Royal Borough where standards have already been improving through the Safer Food Better Business coaching project offered to businesses by environmental health in 2009.

Cllr Phill Bicknell, chief whip and lead member for public protection, said: “Scores on the Doors delivers the information which shows that eateries are clean, healthy and hygienic, helping diners to make a balanced decision about where they eat. It will also be an added incentive for businesses to make sure they are doing all they can to strive for a five-star rating.”
