Council Offers More Grants for Voluntary Organisations

Voluntary organisations now have more opportunities to apply for grant funding from the Royal Borough – thanks to a new scheme that is making extra money available in 2010/11.

Some £16,000 had been added to the grants ‘pot’ and will be awarded over the coming months when the council’s grants panel sits in July, October and January. Also awarded at these meetings will be funds from the Kidwells Park Trust.

This is the first time the grants panel will allocate funds outside its annual grant allocation meeting each February.

Cllr David Burbage, council leader, said: “These are tough times for everyone, and voluntary organisations play such a significant part in our borough that we want to offer a new level of support. We have allocated the additional £16,000 from the council’s economic contingency fund and we hope local organisations will take advantage of these new opportunities for much-needed additional cash to help them with their revenue expenses.

“We are demonstrating strong support for the many dedicated people who give their time and talents so willingly to help our communities.”

Groups are invited to apply for grants of up to £1,000 for revenue expenses such as running costs, administration, hire of premises, one-off events, staffing costs and training. The deadlines for applications are as follows:
•    Friday 30 April for decision at the grants panel meeting on 1 July
•    Friday 30 July for decision on 1 October
•    Friday 29 October for decision on 1 January 2011.
