St.Francis School Joggers for Charity
More than 100 pupil, parents and staff at St Francis Catholic Primary School are pounding the streets and sprinting through local parks as they train hard for the Reading Half Marathon and Green Park Challenge later this month.
The St Francis Joggers are hoping to raise thousands of pounds for The Multiple Sclerosis Society. 14 people have volunteered to run the half marathon and 97 (34 adults and 63 children) will run the three kilometre course in Reading on Sunday March 21.
The Joggers were formed last year to run the Reading Half Marathon in memory of Andy D’Agata who was a governor at the school in Coronation Road, South Ascot who died while taking part in a cycle race in France. His family selected Chase as their charity last year.
This year the St Francis Joggers decided to select The Multiple Sclerosis Society which provides a range of service for anyone touched by the condition. The Maidenhead, Slough and District Multiple Sclerosis Society has a trained team of volunteers who provide advice, support, practical help or be at the end of the phone for those who want to talk. They care for a large MS community and have regular social events and have also funded the appointment of two specialist nurses working in East Berkshire
As well as running to raise funds St Francis School pupils will be exercising their brains as well in a ‘Spell a Thon’ to raise more funds for MS. The Spell a Thon will be held on March 19 which is also going to be Orange Day at St Francis where everyone will be encouraged to ditch their normal brown and yellow uniform and wear the orange colours of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
