NGS LAUNCHES 2010 YELLOW BOOK AND ANNOUNCES SPECTACULAR FINANCIAL RESULTS!
Thanks to its programme of open gardens, Berkshire raised over £50,000 in 2009 and the aim is to exceed that achievement in 2010. To help with this goal, the NGS has 10 exciting new gardens joining the Scheme this year ( one of which is in Sunninghill and will open to groups by appointment ). Gardens will open from April through September , and full details will b here on AscotMatters nearer the time.
Writing in The Yellow Book 2010, Joe Swift, President of the NGS and presenter of BBC Gardeners’ World, says,
”Everything about the NGS and The Yellow Book is so great. Great gardens to visit, great value for money and the proceeds going to great charities….” Today the NGS published its guide to over 3,700 gardens which are featured in The Yellow Book 2010 – the so-called ‘bible’ of garden visiting and the key to secret gardens of England and Wales, as most are private and not otherwise open to the public. And with so many gardens, invariably there’s one very close to where you live. The NGS is also delighted to announce that it is increasing donations to charity by a spectacular 49%! The NGS is giving £2.5 million to beneficiary charities - a magnificent achievement in a year when the recession has generally caused a decline in charity income. From chic urban gardens, to allotments, small cottage gardens and rolling country estates, all are included in The Yellow Book 2010. Look out for.....
• 600 gardens opening for the NGS for the first time • 2,400 gardens admitting under 16s free • 2,300 gardens with plant sales • 100 gardens showcasing Plant Heritage Collections • 200 gardens offering accommodation • 2,500 gardens providing the all important teas and home-made cakes
Priced at £8.99 and available online from www.ngs.org.uk or from all good bookstores, The Yellow Book 2010 highlights water gardens, sensory gardens, gardens offering accommodation and suggests how to develop creatively your own patch. The gardens are excellent value for money – average adult admission is less than £3 - and by visiting them you’ll be doing your bit for charity as the money raised goes to good causes.
The Yellow Book is once again sponsored by leading UK wealth manager Rensburg Sheppards who are continuing their support for The National Gardens Scheme which began seventeen years ago, by helping with the costs of publication of The Yellow Book and the NGS website www.ngs.org.uk.
So make sure you pick-up a copy of this fantastic book - you’ll be surprised at what lies in store for you behind those 3,700 garden gates.
