Pictured: The Dish Dashers, cleverly named after their Dishdasha headwear, in the 2010 Wheelbarrow Race The fastest team, with a time of 9 minutes 42 seconds were last year's winners "Taking the St. Michael's", closely followed by "Round Table Runners" (10:46) and "The Swinley" (11:04). The fastest ladies, with a time of 18 minutes were "Santa Mania", and the prize for best fancy dress went to "Men in Black". The special prize for raising the most sponsorship money went to "Taking the St. Michael's" who raised £304, narrowly beating "Silver Surfers" at £301. The aim of the race is for teams of four ( men, women and children , or mixed) to push a wheelbarrow with one of their number in it, around the marshalled course . Along the way, there are six stopping points, including The Dukes Head, the Dog & Partridge and La Cloch at the Carpenters. These are the 'fuelling' stations, where each member drinks, half a pint of beer, soft drink, lager or water. This is a charitable fnction, organised with the support of the Rotary Club of Ascot and sponsored by Ascot Racecourse, raising vital funds for the Ascot District Day Centre. Although this is called a race, and there is a trophy for the fastest time, (9 minutes and 42 seconds this year), it is also a fancy dress parade and there are prizes for the best fancy dress, as well as the team raising the most sponsorship money.
