Local Golfing Success !

James MartinLocal golfer, James Martin, has had a notable success and hopes to  build on this by attracting local sponsorship. The event was the Crown Golf English PGA Assistants Championship Final , for which James qualified for by coming tied 2nd (-1) in the South Region qualifier held at Pyrford Golf Club in July.

The final was held at Hampton Court Palace Golf Club this week, where the top 30 English Assistants played 36 holes. The conditions of the course were exceptional, the PGA stating that, "The regal souroundings of Hampton Court Palace were a fitting place for the event to be held".

James says:"The first 18 I played fairly well with 5 birdies and an eagle although a couple of loose shots cost me and I finished with a 3 under par total of 68. This left me 4 shots back from the leader, Paul Bradshaw who shot a course record 64 (-7). "

He added: "The afternoon round was played in tougher conditions as the wind grew stronger. I started fairly well considering the conditions and after 9 holes I was level par for the round. The next 9 holes i played really well birdieing 5 holes which meant a score of 66 (-5) and an overall total of 134 (-8). This was good enough to earn me third place overall which was very plaesing considering the strength of the field. I finished 3 shots back from the winner Paul Bradshaw. "

The result is particularly  impressive as a lot of the people playing were full time players whereas James also works and teaches at Lavender Park, which restricts playing time. For more informatione-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
