It’s Monte Carlo or Bust for Ascot Businesswoman! Ascot-based business woman Sue Seakens is preparing to take on the big boys in her Smart car as she drives the Monte Carlo or Bust rally in May. Pitting herself against some of the most powerful and most expensive cars in the world, Sue is taking on the challenge to raise money for the National Osteoporosis Society and Help for Heroes.
Sue, who runs her own successful business, County Concierge, suffers from osteoporosis herself and benefitted from early treatment. She is hoping to raise £2,000 during the event, which starts from Guildford on May 6th and finishes in Monaco on May 9th....
“These are causes that are close to my heart”, said Sue. “I will be driving my little Smart car, which was my 60th birthday present, and our team is called Suzie’s Smokin’ Hot Smartie. The car is branded and we have generous sponsorship from Greenoaks Mercedes-Benz of Ascot, which goes a long way towards making this a successful event.”
Alongside co-driver and husband, Ken Seakens, Sue will be waved off on May 6th by actor Susan Hampshire, who starred in the film Monte Carlo or Bust, and will receive the chequered flag from racing legend Murray Walker when they reach Monaco on the 9th. In between, they will have to negotiate some of the world’s most famous mountain passes, including the San Bernadino pass, the Col de Turini, much loved by BBC’s Top Gear team, and the legendary Furka Pass, which featured in the James Bond movie Goldfinger.
“The Furka Pass is the bit I am most worried about,” says Sue. “It’s known as the Lucrezia Borgia of passes, and it’s very demanding, so apparently, treating it without adequate respect teaches you a lesson you will not forget!”
