Thames Hospice returned to Eton College on Wednesday (14 December 2016) to put on a star-studded Christmas service in the stunning chapel.

Broadcaster Jonathan Dimbleby headed up the line-up of special guest readers, with actor and comedian, Tim Brooke-Taylor OBE, and The Mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, Councillor Sayonara Luxton, joining him. Readings included John Betjemen’s Christmas, read by Jonathan Dimbleby.

Alison Evans, Thames Hospice’s Head of Community and Events Fundraising, said: “On behalf of everyone at Thames Hospice, I would like to thank all who joined us for such a memorable evening. The choir’s performance was incredibly moving and combined with such stirring readings in the historic chapel, we enjoyed a really magical start to the Christmas countdown. It was such an honour to be joined by Jonathan Dimbleby and we are always so grateful for the continued support of Tim Brooke-Taylor.”

More than 300 people enjoyed the unique musical accompaniment of Berkshire-based Tamesis Chamber Choir, performing Christmas carols including O Come all ye Faithful and O Little Town of Bethlehem. Thames Hospice’s Chief Executive, Debbie Raven, opened proceedings, while Ambassador Jason Bevan hosted and, Rosemary Webb, Thames Hospice’s Head of Patient Liaison Services, and Thames Hospice Ambassador, Kate Stewart, also gave festive readings. The service has made thousands for the charity through ticket sales, plus more than an amazing £1,000 was raised through a retiring collection on the night. All funds raised, will allow Thames Hospice to provide local people with quality of life, until the end of life, throughout Christmas and beyond.

Thames Hospice would also like to thank generous supporters E Sargeant & Son Funeral Directors and Thomas Franks catering.
