At  Charters School World Book Day is being celebrated throughout this week with activities to encourage the love of all thing literary.  So far, students have attended an assembly hosted by Tigger and Sherlock Holmes , listened to engaging 10-minute Story Sharing during tutor time and have been asked to get creative for the Design A National Book Token competition.  There is still more to come: a not-to-be-missed Staff Dress Up event on Friday will have students competing to identify the books and characters that are being enthusiastically portrayed by their teachers!

Although the Sunningdale school is celebrating World Book Day this week, there is an ongoing  appreciation of the value of books and a drive to nurture a 'Reading for Pleasure' culture throughout the school.  There are numerous initiatives in place which include ‘Drop Everything and Read ‘ where their Year 7 students do exactly that - they Drop Everything And Read for 20 minutes every day,  and The Big Book Swap something students, parents and staff members alike are becoming very familiar with. These stalls pop up at many school events encouraging people to bring along books they have at home so that someone else might enjoy them and then pick up a new book themselves to discover a new author or genre of writing perhaps, that they might have otherwise missed.

As schools around the country celebrate World Book Day on 2 March, at Charters they understand the power of books and the impact of reading on wellbeing, learning and enjoyment.  It is wonderful to see so many students engaging with these initiatives and developing their love of reading.
