This year, The Lexicon has teamed up with Bracknell Foodbank to help to give local families some festive cheer this Christmas.  Christmas can often bring increased expenditure & anxiety for many, particularly those on a low income and Bracknell Foodbank is aiming to feed additional families over the Christmas period.

Claire Mather, Bracknell Foodbank manager, says: “It isn’t just about giving out food.  If people are struggling to put food on the table, they will also be struggling to buy other festive essentials, which is where we as a community can step-in to help.”

To help, The Lexicon is donating 250 £10 gift cards to the charity to help provide families with some seasonal cheer.

Sue Boor, head of marketing at The Lexicon says:  “This Christmas is likely to be tougher for more people locally, so we wanted to do something that might help put a smile on someone’s face.”

In the New Year, The Lexicon and Bracknell Foodbank plan to launch a new appeal that visitors to The Lexicon and the wider community can get involved with.

About Bracknell Foodbank

Based at Kerith Community Church, The Bracknell Foodbank, part of a national network, provides nutritionally balanced emergency food to people in financial crisis who have nowhere else to turn and helps people break the cycle of poverty by putting them in touch with relevant agencies who can offer further guidance and support.

2020 has already proven to be the busiest year Bracknell Foodbank has seen since opening their doors in 2010, with demand up by nearly 40%. The Trussell Trust (who they partner with) show new analysis forecasts a 61% increase in food parcels needed across its UK network in October to December – that’s six parcels given out every minute!

Sadly, around half of the number of individuals being fed this year through Foodbank are children living in families that are experiencing financial hardship, with low income being the main contributing factor. Statistics show that the number of children they are now seeing in the Bracknell area has already gone up by 8% on last year - families with children have for sure been the hardest hit.

A recent story of the reality of many is that of a single mum who contacted Foodbank during a recent session to say she hadn’t eaten for 2 days & had nothing to last her and her children over the weekend. She had obtained a voucher and Foodbank were able to supply her & her children with ample food to help. She emailed back to say that she was ‘eternally grateful’ and what a difference it had made to them - she now had one less thing to worry about.
