If you’d like to be a Community Champion email  volunteer@rbwm.gov.uk

To help residents stay up to date with the latest factual information on COVID-19, The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead is launching a new community information champion scheme.

Community information champions will receive regular information from the council by email which they can then forward on to family, friends and other contacts. There will be no need to edit the information being sent out, it will be short and to the point for easy sharing in person or on the phone.

The Royal Borough is encouraging people from all communities to come forward and apply to be a community champion. Champions will be able to feedback any questions from their community, ask for clarification or bring to our attention myths that are being shared. We can then act on the feedback by refining the messaging to meet community needs and keep the borough safe.

Councillor Stuart Carroll, deputy chairman of cabinet, adult social care, children’s services, health and mental health, and member of the local outbreak engagement board, said: “Throughout the pandemic, we’ve been getting information out to residents through a variety of platforms and channels.

“Our community and sports groups have been great in helping us share these messages even further but we want to reach as many people as possible so this is where we need the help of the community.

"Misinformation spread on social media can cause unnecessary panic among the community and we need to help clear up confusion and anxiety caused by that. Community champions can help us dispel the myths so the Royal Borough continue fighting against the spread of the virus armed with facts, not fiction.

"Community information champions will help on a voluntary basis and we’re encouraging as many residents as possible to sign up. It won’t take up much time, all we ask is that you send the information on – that could be to just one person or 100 people, depending on your family, friends and network.

"Please sign up - it could make all the difference in helping to protect your family, friends and loved ones while keeping the Royal Borough open.”

To sign up, please email your details stating you’d like to be a community champion to volunteer@rbwm.gov.uk.

The Royal Borough is determined to do whatever it can to keep Covid cases lower in this area, to prevent the imposition of special extra Lockdown measures - which nobody wants!  What can we do ? They have issued the following advice/appeal:

  1. Share RBWM social media posts into community group pages,  posted daily on Twitter and Facebook
  2. Sign up to the weekly RBWM Residents' Newsletter
  3. Download the new Test and Trace app and encourage your followers to do likewise

NHS Test and Trace

The NHS Test and Trace app is now live. It's very easy to download and offers several impressive features.  RBWM is urging as many residents as possible to download it in order to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and help the NHS understand if the virus is spreading in a particular area. The app enables you to 'check in' to public venues - by pointing it at the  QR codes which will soon be present at all public places, you can check your symptoms and register for COVID-19 tests. Then it will alert you if you have been in close contact with someone who has since tested positive. The more people who download the app, the safer we can make our community.

Businesses QR codes

To help reduce the spread of COVID-19, UK businesses need to put up NHS QR code posters for residents to scan when then enter the venue. This will help by informing people via the NHS Test and Trace app if they have been near positive cases and if they need to self-isolate. Poster resources can be found on the official NHS app website.  CLICK HERE to create a QR Code poster for your venue.

COVID-19 advice

COVID-19 is not going away and we all need to our bit to stop the spread. To limit the spread of COVID-19, remember hands, face, space. Continue to wash your hands regularly, cover your face and make space to control infection rates and avoid a second peak. Make sure you self-isolate if you have symptoms or have tested positive to COVID-19. We need to preserve testing capacity for those who need it most so only get a test if you have symptoms.
