1st Sunningdale Scouts’ Quiz Night | A night of cerebral challenge, gastronomic delight, and prizes galore – all whilst raising funds for the 1st Sunningdale Scout Hut refresh.

On Friday 24th January, the crowds gathered Holy Trinity Church, Sunningdale for the inaugural 1st Sunningdale Scouts quiz night. The quiz received a record level of interest, exceeding all expectations, with over 160 attendees across 20 teams. The original venue was moved to Sunningdale Holy Trinity Church and it was a fantastic venue creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

The evening started with a supper of homemade chilli, guacamole and tortillas, with a fund-raising bar keeping the participants refreshed. A fantastic raffle, with some very generous prizes from local companies, also proved popular. Special thanks to those who donated prizes, including Bird, Coco Nail Spa Sunningdale, Costa, Dominos, Elaine of Sunningdale, Healthy Freedom, John Jenkins, Lewis Meat of Sunningdale, Majestic Wines, Match Point Tennis Coaching, My Cloud Coffee, Nag’s Head, Reboot, Shorts Tool Hire, Sunningdale Heath Golf Club, The Barber’s Shop Sunningdale, and Toppers Fish & Chips.

The quiz of 80 questions across a range of topics was hotly contested with the leading team changing hands through out the evening. In the end it was a close finish, with just one point separating the top two teams. But top marks went to The Villagers with a score of 76, just managing to see off ‘Rascals and Reprobates’.

The evening raised £2,450 for the Scouts, which is a fantastic result. This contribution will help us to pay for the fitting of a new kitchen, which was donated by Howdens of Ascot. It will be thoroughly tested in February, as the Beavers section have their cooking badge planned! This is the first step in regenerating our Scout Hut on Sandy Lane, which is the heart of our Scouting community.

1st Sunningdale Scouts provides opportunities for young people in the area to learn new skills for life, join in adventures, and have fun. The Group was founded in 1910, has run continually since then, making it one of the oldest Groups in the UK. Donations, sponsorship and volunteers are always welcome to keep Scouts going and provide those opportunities for years to come. If you can help, contact adulthelp@sunningdalescouts.org.uk

We look forward to seeing you next year for the quiz rematch!
