New recycling scheme for Royal Borough residents & exciting changes to the Greenredeem scheme
The Royal Borough will be launching a new recycling scheme, WAM Gets Recycling, as the Greenredeem scheme which rewards residents for recycling more and wasting less comes to an end on 31st January.
The first recycling incentive scheme of its kind, has been rewarding residents across the borough for recycling for the last ten years.
The Greenredeem scheme will continue with a new partner, and members should expect an announcement at Easter. All points earned by members in the scheme so far will be protected as per the Greenredeem membership agreement.
WAM Gets Recycling is part of the contract with the Royal Borough’s new waste collection contractor, Serco. The new scheme will work with volunteers to improve recycling in their local community.
There will also be a community incentive grants pot, funded by Serco and the council, so local good causes will continue to benefit financially through recycling.
Cllr Donna Stimson, lead member for environmental services, climate change, sustainability, parks and countryside, said: “Working with Greenredeem over the last decade has seen our recycling rate steadily increase as Royal Borough residents understand the value of recycling.
“Our new waste contract with Serco allows for an alternative scheme as we look to increase our recycling rates further. Plans are well underway as the WAM scheme will go live in February.
“We are delighted to be working with WAM and Serco to encourage volunteers from local groups and charities to become more involved with recycling and their local community.
Rob Crumbie, Greenredeem Marketing director, said: “The Greenredeem scheme saw members recycle twice as much and twice as often as non-members, driving an increase in recycling rates from 34% in 2009/10 to 45% in 2017/18.
“Through the partnership, 170 schools and community groups have shared funding of over £150k, generated by the points earned from recycling in the Royal Borough.
