St.Francis Roman Catholic Church, South Ascot Over the weekend of 4th to 6th October, St Francis of Assisi Parish celebrated its Patronal Feast and the 130th Anniversary of the dedication of the church in Coronation Road, Ascot, Berkshire.

The 130 Fest culminated in the visit of Bishop Philip Egan to dedicate  a new stained glass window  celebrating the Ascot UCM’s 60th Anniversary, installed through their fundraising and through the generosity of a private donor, to celebrate reconciliation and peace between peoples and nations.

We were pleased to welcome our Mayor, Councillor Sayonara Luxton, Rev. Darrell Hannah from All Saints Ascot as well as members of the Union of Catholic Mothers who hosted the refreshments at their window blessing celebration (pictured above).

A mass of healing on Friday morning was followed by our evening celebrations in the St Francis School Hall opened by Fr Kevin Bidgood and our wonderful primary school choir, followed by entertainment from our Saturday and Sunday choir and musicians.

We celebrated our parish groups and ministries with an amazing display of stalls around the hall, from Children’s Liturgy to First Holy Communion and Confirmation , Little Franciscan Toddler Group to welcomers to hospitality and church cleaners, SVP to KSC, Secular Franciscan Friars to UCM and London Slough Run.

Saturday evening saw our cinema style viewing of the Franco Zeffirelli 1973 academy nominated movie, “Brother Sun, Sister Moon “ with popcorn and refreshments served in the school hall.

Our Sunday 10am Mass of celebration welcomed an inspiring homily from Fr. Philomena James from the Marian Franciscans in Gosport, Hampshire.

An environmental and pet blessing was celebrated in The Friary Garden before an amazing bring and share lunch of National dishes celebrating the wonderful diversity of our parish community.
