On Friday 11th October, A Level and KS4 Subject Specialists for music at Charters School in Sunningdale took part in a composition workshop led by renowned cellist Matthew Barley.

The workshop, which focused on developing composition skills through improvisation was kindly sponsored by The Arts Society Windlebrook.

Chairman of the Society, Beverley Spence said, “It was a privilege to sit in on Matthew Barley’s class.  He is an inspirational teacher and performer and the Charters’ students took full advantage of all he had to offer.  The Arts Society Windlebrook are delighted to have been able to sponsor this class and look forward to further involvement.”

Ms Irene Anderson, who is Director of Music at the Sunningdale school said, “This was a fantastic experience for our high achieving young musicians. They were pushed outside of their comfort zone to consider composition in a new way within a supportive environment, learning a huge amount from their experience. Matthew Barley was an inspiration to them all.”
