The Oaks Leisure Centre, would provide new facilities for residents to use seven days a week during the daytime, complementing those already at Charters Leisure Centre as well as additional, more modern facilities for pupils at Charters School during term time.

Cllr Samantha Rayner,  has said:

“Formally submitting the planning application for this beautifully designed, high quality new leisure centre in the south of the borough is a big step forward and shows our commitment to improving access to leisure facilities for all our residents.

“The proposals could see residents and pupils at Charters School benefit from a wider range of leisure facilities including a swimming pool meaning they would no longer have to travel to access swimming facilities.”

The existing Charters Leisure Centre would remain in operation offering gym, sports hall and squash facilities during, and following the build.

Capital funding being agreed by Full Council, it’s hoped that new leisure centre would open by spring 2021.
