On Tuesday 25th June, Charters School welcomed parents and friends to a photography exhibition which featured images from the school’s annual Photography Competition.

The theme of the competition, which raises funds to support emotional wellbeing at the Sunningdale school, was “My Happy Place,” and students, staff and alumni rose to the challenge and entered an array of high quality images ranging from sunsets and seascapes to animals and woodland glades.

The winning entry, by Year 9 student Mia Austen, was an abstract image of a ladybird walking on the outside of a window at sunset and drew the eye of the judges, Kat Toft from Artis Studios in Sunninghill and parent David Blackman.

Second place went to Year 10 student Alastair Johnson, who captured an amazing seascape, while Year 9 student Callum Parsley’s beautiful butterfly on flowers was highly commended (pictured above).

Local charity, The Hope Trust, has kindly sponsored the printing of an academic calendar which will feature images from the competition to raise additional funds for the school’s emotional wellbeing campaign.

Charters’ Headteacher, Mr Richard Pilgrim, said “It has been wonderful to see the images submitted by students and staff of their happy places, and the exhibition has certainly brought a smile to my face. The school is very grateful for the sponsorship of The Hope Trust and the time and support from Arts Studios and Mr Blackman. The emotional wellbeing of our students is a priority for Charters School and the funds raised from this initiative will be put to very good use.”
