Sebastian’s Action Trust launches online fundraising appeal

Sebastian’s Action Trust has launched an online fundraising campaign to provide emergency supply packs to families of children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions.

Crowthorne charity Sebastian’s Action Trust provides emotional, practical and social support to more than 600 families who have seriously-ill children.

Due to social distancing restrictions that have been imposed on us all in light of the Coronavirus pandemic, the charity is not able to offer this support face-to-face and is finding new ways to support its vulnerable families; families with children undergoing cancer treatment, organ transplant patients and those with respiratory conditions such as cystic fibrosis and others with compromised immune systems.

Sebastian’s Action Trust’s family support workers are alleviating the huge pressures being faced by emergency healthcare givers and the NHS by delivering emergency practical support to families including the provision of vital supplies for those who cannot leave their homes.

Each emergency support pack costs approximately £40 and includes essential items such as bread, milk, eggs, tinned foods, toiletries and baby care products including nappies and wipes.

Sebastian’s Action Trust is asking for supporters to help fund these emergency support packs to help keep families safe and nourished, by making a donation on the charity’s Just Giving page, www.justgiving.com/campaigning/SATstillworking

Jane Gates OBE, Sebastian’s Action Trust CEO, said: “We know that everyone’s lives have been affected by the Coronavirus pandemic, but if you can give anything, your donation will help us bring emergency provisions to our vulnerable families.

“As we cannot initiate our own fundraising efforts at this time, we are entirely dependent upon the generosity of our supporters to help us finance the emergency support we are giving. Sebastian’s Action Trust is still at work, supporting vulnerable families each and every day.”

About Sebastian's Action Trust:

  • Sebastian’s Action Trust is an incorporated charity based at The Woodlands – its outreach facility in Crowthorne, Berkshire. Developed from the vision of one very special nine-year-old boy and launched just twelve days before he died of cancer in 2003, Sebastian’s aim for the charity was to provide a place where life-limited children and their families can holiday together away from the rigours of hospital appointments, gruelling treatment schedules and prying eyes. He wanted to create a private place where memories could be made which would last a lifetime, even if that life was to be cruelly cut short.

  • In 2011, Sebastian’s vision was finally realised when The Bluebells, the UK’s first purpose built respite holiday home was completed. Since opening in July 2011, The Bluebells, located in North Waltham, Hampshire, has given hundreds of families the opportunity to spend precious time together.

  • In 2017, Sebastian’s Action Trust opened a second outreach facility in Berkshire, The Woodlands, which is a base from which a range of therapeutic services are available to the families of children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.
