On Thursday 8th November 2018, Professor Lord Robert Winston, whose pioneering work in the field of IVF has made him one of the most important Scientists of our time, officially opened The Winston STEM Building at Charters School in Sunningdale.

The new building has created thirteen classrooms for science and maths teaching, including two science laboratories. The school is exceptionally proud of the success achieved by its students in STEM subjects and was the only school in the country that exhibited at the Royal Society’s Summer Exhibition earlier in the year.

Professor Lord Robert Winston delivered a presentation to staff and governors on the Importance of Academic Research and Development to the Next Generation, focusing on the value of teamwork and perseverance, before unveiling a plaque to mark the occasion.

Mr Richard Pilgrim, Headteacher at Charters School said, “We are very proud of our new building and the opportunities we can offer the next generation of Scientists, Mathematicians and Engineers.  Grateful thanks to RBWM who funded the facility as part of their £30m secondary school expansion programme.”
