On Thursday July 12th, Charters School in Sunningdale welcomed Mrs Barbara Hamilton from The Arts Society, Englemere, as a special guest when a new mural to celebrate the school’s 60th birthday was unveiled.

The abstract images, which feature on the 42 boards of the mural, were created by stencils that were inspired by the angles of the school buildings. Students in years 7, 8 and 9 who had demonstrated excellent ability during art lessons were chosen to work on the project, selecting their own colour combinations to create the canvases. Once complete, words from the school’s ‘Unity, Respect, Excellence’ motto were stencilled across some of the canvases, which are hung in the main stairwell of the school.

Mrs Hamilton, who had previously visited the school as the individual canvases were painted, said that it was wonderful to see the finished artwork and that Englemere were pleased to support the purchase of the canvasses, brushes, sponges and paints. Subject Leader for Art, Mrs Nancy Lee-Wragg said, “The students have created an amazing legacy for the school which represents Charters’ values. Their work is a truly accomplished piece, which many will enjoy for years to come.”
