Students at  Charters School in Sunningdale  have been raising funds for an ‘Oasis’ STEM garden by eating donuts!

The student Sites and Facilities Council, which is led by Year 13 students Hannah Heitplatz, Myles Kearsley and Hannah Collison, had the ingenious idea of selling the sweet treats each day from the school’s bandstand at second break to raise funds for a new garden at the school. They negotiated a bulk purchase with Sainsbury’s in Bracknell and hope to sell 1000 donuts by the end of the week for £1 each, which will go some way to achieving their £20,000 target.

A new Maths and Science block is currently under construction at the school and it is hoped that enough funds can be raised to create an interactive ‘Oasis’ STEM garden on the site of the current maths buildings which will be demolished later in the year.

The students said, "This week we have been selling donuts in order to raise money and awareness for ‘The Oasis STEM Project' which has been designed by students from across the school in the Sites and Facilities Student Council with help from Dawnus and teachers. The money raised this week will go a long way to helping to realise this very exciting project which will benefit all of the students in the future. Thank you to everyone who bought a donut (or more!) and helped in organising the sale.”
