It was a very successful day on Saturday 19th January when 55 Charters students took part in the Berkshire Cross Country championships at Newbury Showground.

Despite the cold and wintery weather, it was very pleasing that the Charters School in Sunningdale had 55 runners in the event and that three of their students were individual medallists.

Curriculum Leader of Physical Education at Charters, Mrs Kirstie Hartwell said, “We encourage our students to take part in a variety of Cross Country events and recognise that we have some very talented athletes who also attend local clubs. Both the U15 & U19 Girls were crowned County Team Champions and it is a remarkable achievement that 14 of the students have been selected to represent Berkshire in the South East Schools' Inter-County Cross-Country Championships on 2nd February. I am looking forward to seeing how the students’ progress.”

Individual Bronze medallist Charlie Holden said, “It’s great to be able to do something I love and represent Charters School at the same time”, while Individual Gold medallist Nathalie Camp said, “I was aiming for the top three but I am so pleased that I won. I ran from the front and just wasn’t caught. I am so proud that I will represent Berkshire at the South East Schools’ Championships next month.”
