Charters School in Sunningdale   | The Creative Arts Faculty at Charters School has built quite a reputation over the past few years with their annual stage shows, and as the school looks forward to its Diamond anniversary in April, this year was no exception.

The main hall was transformed into a Cabaret Club for a trip down memory lane, as students performed musical numbers from the school’s back catalogue of shows. Seated at round tables, the audience was treated to an array of classics from shows including West Side Story, We Will Rock You and Summer Holiday. Nearly all of the choreography was created by talented Sixth Form students, while the drama students added to the cabaret vibe by performing original sketches throughout the show.

The run was kicked off by the school’s annual Community Performance, where pensioners from local day centres and care homes were invited to experience the show during the school day along with students from some of the local schools. During the intermission, the audience was served refreshments which were kindly donated by Londis in Sunninghill.

Parents and friends were treated to two nights of performances on Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th November. The final performance brought a standing ovation and the audience left the production humming the tunes.

Miss Belinda Francis, Curriculum Leader for the Creative Arts Faculty, was extremely proud of the entire cast and crew, saying “everyone involved in this showcase has come together to produce work that celebrates the talent at the school and the passion for the Arts that we all share. The production team and performance ensemble all volunteered to be involved, and have shown excellent dedication to enable this performance to happen in just a matter of weeks.”

Charters’ Creative Arts Faculty believe wholeheartedly in the importance of giving students the opportunity to participate in enriching Arts activities. It is hoped that there will be many more shows in future years, so that in another 60 years time, more memories can be shared by Charters’ students and staff.
