FROM "THE ROSE" TO "PAPPLEWICK" | The Spotlights Musical Theatre Group (SMTG) are changing their performance venue this year after many years at the Rose Theatre, part of St.Marys School in Ascot. "We first performed a summer show at the Rose in 2010", says John Woodward-Roberts, the groups Chairman. "It was Salad Days and we followed this up with HMS Pinafore (2011), Annie Get Your Gun (2012), Orpheus in the Underworld (2013), Kiss Me Kate (2014) and Pajama Game in 2015". "Our last show at The Rose in 2016 was Pirates of Penzance, a fitting production to complete our tenancy with" says John.

Homeless for a few months, but full of optimism that something would turn up, the SMTG were delighted when it was agreed that they could perform their 2017 summer show, My Fair Lady, at Papplewick School, the independent boys school on Windsor Road in Ascot. "The agreement was brokered by Chris Goodwin, the SMTGs ex Music Director and Chapel Organist at Papplewick" says John, "and, although we miss The Rose and its people very much,  we are delighted to be performing there".

The SMTG are particularly excited that one of the big chorus songs in My Fair Lady, The Ascot Gavotte, is actually set in the Royal Enclosure at Ascot racecourse. "The school is adjacent to the racecourse so you couldn't hope for a more fitting location"

The group will be fundraising for the charity "Youth Music" during show week.

My Fair Lady will be performed at Papplewick School from Thursday July 13th to Saturday July 15th. Performances will be at 730pm and there will also be a matinee at 2.30pm on the Saturday. Tickets cost £16 for adults and £11 for children under 16 and can be bought on line at www.ticketsource.co.uk/spotlightsmusicaltheatregroup  They can also be bought from any SMTG member or from the group's box office on 0333 666 3366.  A transaction charge of £1.50 will be made for all telephone box office bookings.
