Charters School  | After a brilliant performance in the Worcestershire Regional, Charters School’s Girls’ Robotics team went to the Big Bang Fair at the Birmingham NEC to compete in the Vex National Finals on Friday 17 March and Saturday 18 March.  The girls had designed and built a robot which could throw stars and cubes over a fence.  Throughout the competition they were paired with random teams, and played 2 against 2 to see which ‘alliance’ could get the most stars and cubes into the other alliance’s half. During the first day of qualification matches they were looking good for making it through to the elimination rounds, but a string of bad luck on the second day (they were paired with broken robots for 3 matches in a row) saw them fall down the rankings, and they were, unfortunately, eliminated.  However, it was a fantastic experience for the girls; competing in front of members of the public, trying out the ‘skills challenge’ and doing very well against some more established teams.  Their robot also survived intact (many didn’t)!

Well done to Elsa Kremer, Abby Ives, Hannah Yates and Louise Johnson who attended the competition, and the rest of the Girls’ Robotics team who helped build the robot, and fundraise for parts (Moya Payne, Isabelle Robinson, Alexandra Brown, Francine Kay, Isabella Somerville, Summer Jennings, Grace Purrington, Alexandra Dunnet, Mayrra Vila, Hannah Dore and Sian Weigh).
