During Assembly on Tuesday 13 September, over 100 Year 10 students from Charters School in Sunningdale,  were presented with certificates and badges after completing the BA Language Flag Award in Year 9. The British Airways Language Flag Award complements GSCE coursework, promotes confidence in speaking and links languages at school with the world of work.

The introduction of a language test within BA for customer facing staff highlighted a desperate shortage of language speakers within the UK. The Flag Award was an adapted version of the internal test and was an attempt to encourage young people to continue language learning. It helped to develop a link between classroom language learning and the working world.

Mrs Mathews, Curriculum Leader for the Modern Foreign Language Faculty said, “We are very proud that so many of our students worked with us and prepared independently for this prestigious award, especially as BA are no longer offering this for schools. Well done, Charters!”
